"Revenge Porn"/Internet Privacy

If someone shared sexual images of you without your consent, you may be entitled to financial compensation.

The non-consensual dissemination of sexual images, aka “revenge porn,” involves someone sharing or threatening to share intimate, nude or sexual photographs or videos of another person without their consent. Often, the person initially consented to the creation of the image or video or may have even sent the image or video themselves. However, this crime can also be perpetrated by strangers who hack into your phone, laptop, or cloud photo storage.

Someone who shares those intimate photos or videos without the person’s consent can face criminal charges—specifically, a class D felony if the person actually shares the images, and a class E felony if the person threatens to share the photos.

Missouri’s criminal statute, Section 573.110 RSMo, also provides for a civil cause of action for monetary damages for victims of this crime.
